Requirements:
Appropriate qualifications that allow registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner. Current HPCSA registration as an Independent Medical Practitioner for April 2024/2025.
Experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA: Grade 1 (0-5 years), Grade 2 (5-10 years), Grade 3 (10-15 years).
Competencies/Knowledge/Skills: Good leadership skills, excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, conflict resolution, and good interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must be adaptable, disciplined, and self-confident. Ability to work independently and under pressure, beyond normal working hours, and with a diverse team.
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
Clinical skillset to manage high volume patient numbers and experience in managing children requiring ambulatory and emergency care.
A certification in APLS, proof of completion of IMCI and ETAT will be an advantage.
Duties:
Interview, investigate, diagnose, and oversee the treatment of patients, including related administrative duties.
Participate in all activities of the discipline in relation to teaching and research, departmental audit activities, and preparing/writing reports.
Liaison and communication services and community liaison.
Supervise junior doctors (undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors).
Willingness to do commuted overtime.
Attend relevant administrative meetings like mortality meetings, near-miss meetings, and complete Medico Legal Documents timeously (e.g., death certificates).
Improve quality of care by providing appropriate clinical care and reduce medical litigation by exercising good clinical ethos.
Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards (norms and standards).
Participate in multidisciplinary team management of patients.
Perform practical procedures relevant to patient care.
Participate in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations, lectures, and ward rounds.
Ensure that administration and record keeping are done in the department.
Render after-hour (night, weekend, and public holiday) duties to provide continuous uninterrupted patient care.
Responsible for the rendering of clinical services, assessment, and treatment of patients.
