Job Purpose: The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to render technical services and support in engineering research, design, manufacturing, operations and maintenance.

Minimum Requirements:

1. An appropriate 3-year National Diploma in Engineering Mechanical or relevant qualification.
2. Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Engineering Technician.
3. A minimum of 3 years relevant post qualification technical (Engineering) experience.
4. A valid code B driving licence.

Key Performance Areas:

1. Render technical services.
2. Assist Engineers, Technologists and associates in field, workshop, and technical office activities.
3. Promote safety in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
4. Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology and review and/or produce technical designs with specifications and submit for evaluation and approval by the relevant authority.
5. Perform administrative and related functions.
6. Provide input into the budgeting process as required and submit reports as required.
7. Provide and consolidate inputs to the technical/engineering operational plan.
8. Develop, implement and maintain databases and supervise and control technical and related personnel and assets.
9. Research and development.
10. Continuous professional development to keep up with new technologies and procedures.
11. Research/literature studies on technical engineering technology to improve expertise and liaise with relevant bodies/councils on engineering related matters.

Knowledge Required:

1. Technical: Project Management knowledge and experience; Technical design and analysis knowledge; Research and development; Computer-aided engineering; AutoCAD drawing; Knowledge of legal compliance; Technical report writing; Technical consulting.
2. Generic: Problem solving and analysis; Decision making; Teamwork; Creativity; Customer focus and responsiveness; Communication; Computer skills; People Management; Planning and Organising; Change Management; Good analytical, interpersonal and organisational skills; Good verbal and written communication skills; Computer literacy (MS Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Remuneration: Grade A: R - R per annum; Grade B: R - R per annum; Grade C: R - R per annum (Salary will be determined based on post registration experience as per OSD prescribed).

Notes: Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. These candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and may also be required to undergo competency assessments/proficiency tests. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
