Organisational Description

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (The Academy) is a world-class educational platform for girls that is aimed at nurturing a new generation of dynamic women leaders. This residential boarding school is situated in Meyerton, Gauteng Province with just over 300 students enrolled in Grades 8 -12. Students write the Independent Examination Board (I.E.B.) NSC Examination.

Minimum Academic Requirements and Experience

  • Relevant degree with a professional teaching qualification;
  • Proof of active registration with SACE;
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in teaching Grade 8 and 9 Mathematics;
  • Ability and willingness to teach Mathematical Literacy in the FET band;
  • IEB and Further Studies Mathematics teaching, marking, and/or moderation will be an added advantage.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude

  • An understanding of teaching girl students;
  • A passion for enquiry-based, student-centered learning;
  • Knowledge of Mathematics curriculum design and assessment frameworks for Grades R to 12;
  • Skill in identifying and bridging students’ learning gaps;
  • Extensive understanding of the high school Mathematics curriculum;
  • Awareness and working knowledge of the latest trends in Mathematics education;
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills;
  • An ability to work effectively as an individual and in teams;
  • A commitment to personal growth and the development of others;
  • Sound relationship-building skills;
  • Effective time management;
  • Analytical and critical thinking and writing skills;
  • Problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills;
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrate high levels of professionalism;
  • Willingness to participate in the broader life of the Academy and to contribute positively to the ethos of the Academy;
  • Act with the highest integrity and always uphold the Academy’s standards and values (Respect, Honour, Compassion, Service, Responsibility, and Accountability);
  • Willingness to implement the Neurosequential Model of Education (NME).
