Job description

Introduction

Role Summary

To manage resources in order to maximise turnover and minimise shortage. Ensures that standards, processes and policies are adhered to.

Duties & Responsibilities

Merchandise Management

  1. Ensures that hygiene, housekeeping and safe work standards are maintained.
  2. Monitors adherence to merchandise/display standards.
  3. Conducts regular quality checks on merchandise.
  4. Checks that pricing of products are correct.
  5. Optimizes stock levels.
  6. Ensures the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
  7. Identifies possible hazards in the workplace.
  8. Manages inventory.
  9. Monitors quality checks on merchandise.
  10. Checks and advises on merchandising safety and hygiene standards.
  11. Monitors competitor developments and customer profiles.
  12. Develops and builds supplier relationships.
  13. Analyses category performance.

Finance

  1. Monitors departmental gross margins and turnover and identifies deviations.
  2. Conducts bi-annual stock take.

People Management & Development

  1. Evaluates the performance of subordinates against agreed objectives and standards.
  2. Monitors, assists and advises on staff performance.
  3. Supervises staff.
  4. Provides input into scheduling requirements for the department.

Operations & Maintenance

  1. Ensures that all equipment is maintained in effective working order.
  2. Ensures that equipment is operated in accordance with laid down standards.
  3. Ensures that checks are carried out on faulty equipment before calling out relevant contractor.
  4. Ensures that back-ups are well maintained.

Shrinkage & Security

  1. Controls soilage.
  2. Controls mark-downs and shrinkage.
  3. Ensures adherence to security procedures.
  4. Implements shrinkage control measures.
  5. Monitors all areas of possible loss due to theft, freebagging, fraud, and/or carelessness.
  6. Opens and locks store.
  7. Attends to alarm call-outs.
  8. Ensures that cash office procedures and security checks are adhered to.

Administration

  1. Completes all relevant administration documentation.
  2. Monitors and checks accuracy of LAN listing with reference to incorrect barcodes and discontinued lines.
  3. Monitors and checks that price changes are actioned daily.
  4. Analyses stock reports.
  5. Confirms daily rosters and follows up on deliveries.
  6. Utilises daily stock reports.

Customer Service Management

  1. Provides customers with information on store layout, product availability and customer services.
  2. Listens, confirms and responds to customer requests for products and services.
  3. Deals with customers who wish to return/exchange/repair goods previously purchased.
  4. Performs front-line duty.
  5. Handles customer complaints.

Sales Promotions

  1. Plans and implements sales promotions.
  2. Plans and implements the execution of in-store promotions.
  3. Monitors the implementation of promotional activities in store.
  4. Evaluates the success of promotional activities in-store.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  1. Grade 12.
  2. Minimum 2 - 3 years' experience in a supervisory role.
  3. Clothing / General Merchandise Experience Required.
