Job description

The Argyle Eatery and Bar in Hunterville is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced manager to lead this exciting new venture. A unique opportunity to manage a newly revitalised licensed eatery and garden bar in the heart of rural New Zealand. Recently purchased by a consortium of passionate locals, the building is being transformed to include a quality licenced eatery and garden bar, to become a must-stop destination on State Highway 1, and a local hub for the surrounding community.

About the Role:

As Manager, you will play a key role in the development and operational success of the licensed eatery and garden bar. Your leadership will help establish the venue and attract customers as a go-to spot for locals and travellers alike. This is a dual role combining overall management with being a qualified chef or Duty Bar Manager.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Overseeing the running of the kitchen, eatery, and bar, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable customer experience.
  2. Recruiting, training, and developing bar and kitchen staff, and maintaining service and performance.
  3. Overseeing financials, stock control, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  4. Collaborating with the directors on the development of the licenced eatery and bar.
  5. Ensuring the eatery and garden bar operate smoothly and efficiently.

What We’re Looking For:

  1. A manager also qualified as either a Chef or Duty Manager.
  2. Proven experience in hospitality management, ideally in both bar and restaurant settings.
  3. A passion for food and drink, with an understanding of creating an enjoyable dining and drinking experience.
  4. People management skills with experience in training and leading a team.
  5. The ability to manage budgets, stock take, and oversee the stocking of the kitchen and bar.
  6. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team, ensuring the venue’s operational success.
  7. A personable, friendly, and professional approach to customer service, and able to build relationships with both locals and passing traffic.
  8. A flexible attitude and capable of adapting to the needs of the business as it grows and evolves.
