Job description

Our client, a pharmaceutical distribution company based in Midrand, is seeking a Management Accountant to join their team.

The purpose of the role will be to manage the overall general accounting and commercial functions of the organisation.

The Management Accountant will oversee, implement, and maintain accounting systems, procedures, and policies.

This position ensures the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data and acts as liaison between the company, government, client, and CPA auditors in providing required information.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for preparation of monthly management accounts.
  2. Leading the month-end process, including preparation of management accounts, investigating any discrepancies in the accounts, providing commentary and variance analysis.
  3. Performing the month-end procedures in the accounting software.
  4. Review month-end tasks performed by commercial managers, including cash flow analysis, FX postings, accruals and prepayments, fixed assets etc.
  5. Running weekly timetable meetings with the team to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  6. Preparation of monthly and quarterly balance sheet report and related commentary.
  7. Presenting results at quarterly meetings with budget holders.
  8. Leading the annual budget process and year-end forecast by liaising with colleagues in other departments.
  9. Providing information to budget holders upon request.
  10. Reviewing weekly / monthly bank reconciliations and providing support as required.

Requirements:

  1. Qualification in Business finance or Accounting.
  2. Recognised professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA and National Tax Diploma an advantage.
  3. 5-10 years of accounting experience in public accounting or private sector.
  4. Proficient using MS Word as well as applicable accounting software.
  5. Thorough knowledge of general accounting principles including application of general accounting theory.
  6. Strong leadership and proven supervisory skills.
  7. Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  8. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  9. Ability to work and interact with department and client organizations.
  10. Sound knowledge of financial management, Balance Sheets, Cash flow, Income statements and SA market economy.
  11. Good understanding of business and financial issues.
