We’re on the lookout for experienced Maintenance Managers to provide leadership to achieve cost-effective and efficient maintenance and establish and enforce effective engineering and maintenance procedures and standards in order to maximise the production of dissolving wood pulp in a safe and legally compliant manner.

As a Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:

  1. Participating in developing and executing the mill's Maintenance and Improvement strategy, ensuring equipment is available, reliable, and efficient.
  2. Completing effective shut planning and execution including coordination of multidisciplinary annual maintenance shuts.
  3. Managing and maintaining all engineering installations in the area of responsibility assigned to you.
  4. Developing and maintaining relevant mill documents and standards, specifications, and procedures that ensure compliance with maintenance best practices and engineering standards and specifications.
  5. Planning and implementing predictive and planned maintenance techniques.
  6. Identifying, motivating, and justifying capital expenditure projects for new plant or machinery upgrades.
  7. Overseeing the development of equipment and process specifications and approving changes in the design of the plant.
  8. Accountable for the commissioning of new and decommissioning of old equipment.
  9. Accountable for contract management including contract negotiations for major engineering contracts in addition to determining when engineering services should be outsourced.
  10. Ensuring a safe and healthy work environment through compliance with legal regulations and mill procedures.
  11. Directing maintenance, engineering, and project team members in terms of performance management, talent management, goal alignment, career development, and learning in areas of responsibility.
  12. Compiling and implementing annual maintenance and fixed costs budgets and participating in long-term financial business plans in order to execute the maintenance and improvement strategy.

What are we looking for?

  1. NQF level 8 qualification (4-year Engineering Bachelor’s degree / Related equivalent) coupled with a relevant management qualification at NQF level 6.
  2. Government Certificate of Competence (Factories).
  3. Registration as a professional engineer would be considered advantageous.
  4. 8 – 10 years of relevant experience in a heavy industry environment with proven people management experience.
  5. Experience in the Pulp and Paper Industry would be advantageous.
