Our client in the Waste Industry is currently looking for a suitable Maintenance Manager to be based in Kwa-Zulu Natal - North.

Position: Maintenance Manager

Reporting Line: Managing

Responsible For: Maintenance and Workshop Staff

  • Grade 12
  • Millwright Qualification or Electrical
  • Strong mechanical experience
  • Electric Control and Instrumentation experience
  • 3 - 5 years’ relevant experience in maintenance
  • Knowledge of Landfill maintenance an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job Summary:

To undertake and be responsible for the mechanical and electrical maintenance of the company as directed by the manager and as planned in the maintenance schedules.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all maintenance and fabrication work is performed to the required quality standards.
  • Responsible person in terms of the occupational health and safety act regarding the maintenance and repairs operation.
  • Ensure proper documentation of maintenance work.
  • Ensure all work procured adheres to procurement policy.
  • Ensure implementation of documented and computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and management thereof.
  • Ensure best practice with maintenance work with adherence to OEM requirements and relevant ISO standards.
  • Responsible for security on site and the management of the security company.
  • Involved in the investigation process should the event occur.
  • Responsible for the workshop on site.
  • Responsible for the activity of the cleaning and maintenance of the bins.
  • Responsible for the service and upkeep of the wash bay on site.
  • Responsible for all maintenance on site, inclusive of buildings, roads, and ablution facilities.
  • Responsible for all compliance documents associated with bylaws, provincial and national laws pertaining to maintenance of equipment and tanks on site.
  • Preventative and planned maintenance tasks.
  • Emergency maintenance.
  • Corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure the correct usage of all electrical equipment/assets in the workshop and maintenance environments.
  • Direct routine and special maintenance interventions on all plant, machinery, and ancillary equipment at the treatment plants.
  • Manage commissioning of new or modified plants.
  • Assist with the shutdown and start-up procedures for all plants.
  • Ensure all plant maintenance and lockout requirements are reported to the Senior process engineer or process engineer.
  • Preparation of machinery for inspection.
  • Implementation of corrosion prevention measures.
  • Maintain all records regarding the performance of maintenance duties.
  • Control of workshop equipment and tools.
  • Be available for 24-hour stand-by duties.
  • Perform any other duties required by your designated departmental manager.
  • Ensure documentation of all asset registers, service reports, calibrations for all maintenance work undertaken.
  • To implement planned maintenance according to the maintenance schedules and prescribed procedures.
  • Knowledge of PLC and SCADA Programming and maintenance.
  • Maintenance of automated packaging equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of software programs.
  • Instrumentation setup and maintenance.
  • Equipment failure root cause analysis.
  • Identification and implementation of improvement opportunities to minimize site breakdowns and optimize equipment performance (TPM/Preventative Maintenance).
  • Working with suppliers and contractors to self-manage maintenance work.
  • Manages personnel to achieve related maintenance goals.
  • Ensures effective health, safety, environmental and preventive maintenance programs are in place to achieve plant and organizational goals and compliance with all related requirements.
  • Oversees plant electrical and instrumentation maintenance.
  • Develops and manages related budget and expenditures and establishes preventive maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Promotes and drives the maintenance program using asset management techniques. Schedules, assigns, and supervises in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, including switchgear, controllers, and electrical motors; oversees the troubleshooting and repairs of electrical and electronic circuits and equipment to 4160 volts; supervises the installation of conduit, wiring, relays, control and timing devices and metering equipment.
  • Provides leadership and coaching for setting and achieving plant electrical and instrumentation expectations and team and individual goals that are aligned with the plant and business strategy.
  • Trains maintenance personnel as to methods and procedures, standards of performance, and other factors affecting work.
  • Conducts formal hiring interviews.
  • Makes selection and promotion recommendations. Coaches, mentors, and manages performance of subordinates.
  • Evaluates personnel performance. Identifies and ensures appropriate and timely training and development.
  • Resolves disputes and maintains discipline and morale. Initiates and recommends disciplinary actions.
  • Develops and implements process improvement projects. Brainstorms for ideas that can solve problems, improve efficiency, reduce cost, and improve safety.
  • Manages continuous change and adapts business processes as necessary.
