Job Specification: Logistics Manager
Job Purpose
The Logistics Manager will oversee and manage all inbound (Receiving) and outbound (Despatch) operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. The successful candidate must be hands-on, experienced, and capable of working with various stakeholders, from van assistants to directors, demonstrating strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
Key Responsibilities
Receiving (Inbound Logistics)
· Ensure daily operational requirements are met within the Receiving department.
· Oversee forklifts, OPXs, and articulated lift vehicles to ensure they are operationally ready and compliant with regulations.
· Schedule and track inbound containers from port to point of delivery, ensuring timely arrivals.
· Manage relationships with existing suppliers while identifying potential alternative suppliers based on performance and cost metrics.
· Compile monthly reports detailing department activities, costs, and performance insights.
Despatch (Outbound Logistics)
· Ensure daily operational requirements are met within the Despatch department.
· Maintain processes for efficient shunting, staging, and loading of vehicles.
· Ensure smooth coordination between Operations and Despatch to meet delivery targets.
· Oversee delivery vehicle readiness (fit-for-purpose and regulatory compliance).
o Ensure vehicle logbooks and daily checks are maintained.
o Monitor debriefs and Proof of Delivery (POD) processes.
· Manage ad-hoc vehicle usage requirements as needed.
· Maintain supplier relationships, ensuring cost management and accountability through monthly feedback meetings.
o Identify potential new suppliers and manage cost approvals where necessary.
· Compile monthly reports on department activities and costs.
Key Requirements
Experience & Skills:
· Proven experience in logistics management (preferably in both Receiving and Despatch).
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
· Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) – able to interact effectively with van assistants, operations teams, and directors.
· Experience with supplier management and cost control.
· Strong planning and organisational skills.
· Proficiency in logistics tracking, reporting, and compliance requirements.
