Job Purpose
This position fills a key role in the provision of two key portfolios:
- Student library training and development
- Library staff training and development
We are seeking the services of a self-motivated and proactive training and skills development coordinator to work as part of the library staff team, across all campuses of CPUT. This position is to drive student library training in various aspects, including the coordination, development, and delivery of information literacy and research skills programmes in all faculties of the university.
The position also involves working closely with other university units and includes (but is not limited to):
- Coordinating the development and delivery of information literacy and research skills programmes.
- Coordinating the development and delivery of Advanced Information Literacy programmes and working closely with other Librarians to support postgraduate students.
- Devising, maintaining, and developing the curriculum of the information literacy modules offered by the library in consultation with other stakeholders.
- Ensuring blended learning methodologies, which includes developing the curriculum in an online course within a learning management system.
- Training and supporting the Library Faculty Support Teams in teaching the modules and administering the compulsory online assessment.
- Ongoing monitoring and reporting on all students’ library training programmes.
- Membership of the University Information Literacy Committee (ILC).
The position also includes the coordination of the training of library staff, which includes (but is not limited to):
- Development of annual training plans in consultation with library managers and their staff.
- Internal course training nominations, external studies support nominations, and liaison with outside service providers.
- Participating in the planning, organizing, and hosting of relevant conferences, workshops, and seminars.
This position requires the Librarian to work on Saturdays and after-hours shifts when required. You will need to be flexible and adapt to the constant changes that Librarians face within the workplace.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A relevant 4-year degree in Training, Education, or related fields with a focus on training in Higher Education or a research environment.
OR
- Four years LIS Qualification (B.Bibl, B.Inf (Hon) or PGDLis).
- 3 years’ relevant experience in training, teaching, and learning in a Higher Education or Research environment.
- Strong skills in learning and digital technologies with a focus on designing and delivering programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Recommendations:
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Library Science or Education.
- Experience in curriculum development, assessment strategies, and development of online learning material.
- Experience in staff skills development planning and implementation programmes.
The main Key Performance Areas (KPA)
- Develop and coordinate training programmes and content for Information literacy in partnership with Library staff and other CPUT Faculties and Departments.
- Guide Librarians and other Library staff in training best practices.
- Support the development and delivery of training programmes to postgraduate students and staff.
- Assist Librarians with training offered as needed across campuses in person and online.
- Create, update, and manage Library staff skills development documents.
- Support the development of staff reskilling activities and career growth.
- Be involved in advocacy for the promotion of Information Literacy programmes.
- Coordinate Information Literacy committee activities and other forums.
- Coordinate all new staff induction programmes as required.
- Participate in skills development committee and other forums at CPUT.
- Provide relevant reports as needed.
- Support relevant projects at CPUT Libraries.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all library staff.
- Participate in the shift system as required.
