Legal Technician

Our prestigious client in the short-term insurance industry seeks a detail-oriented Legal Technician to join their dynamic team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with insurance experience who wants to develop their career in a legal environment.

As a Legal Technician, you will manage recoveries and third-party claims, applying your knowledge of South African Law of Collisions and the Apportionments Act to negotiate settlements effectively while working within established Service Level Agreements.

Please take note that this is a 6 month contract with the possibility of going perm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage a portfolio of recovery matters with consistent follow-ups
2. Process and finalize third-party claims
3. Negotiate with other insurers and uninsured parties
4. Provide regular updates to brokers and clients
5. Maintain accurate case documentation and system records
6. Request and deliver updates from attorneys in clear, jargon-free language
7. Manage client expectations regarding legal outcomes
8. Ensure timely reimbursement of excesses on successful claims
9. Prepare accurate monthly reports on third-party portfolio and recovery matters

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Matric Certificate (essential)
2. Higher Certificate in Short-term Insurance (NQF 5) or Full Qualification (NQF 4) (highly advantageous)
3. Class of Business certification in Personal Lines & Commercial Lines (highly advantageous)
4. FAIS Fit and Proper compliance with track record of working unsupervised
5. 3-5 years short-term insurance experience
6. Experience in a legal department dealing with recoveries, third-party claims, and litigation processes (highly advantageous)
7. Client service experience working with brokers and stakeholders
8. Claims experience (highly advantageous)
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
10. Knowledge of rules of the road, Law of Delict, and Apportionments Act
