Purpose of the role

To support and assist the Claims and legal department in the processing of claims, disputes, and engaging in the unsupervised full spectrum of litigation from demand to trial. The role also involves dealing with fines, a property portfolio, and work of a general nature, as required by the Company from time to time. The successful candidate must have high levels of attention to detail, be organized and systematic in the work carried out, and have above-average skills related to litigation and drafting. The ideal applicant would embrace a culture of professionalism and efficient, effective, and timeous management controls of cases at all times. The ideal candidate should have ambition to become a lawyer/attorney and want to advance through the legal field and utilize this environment to expose their skills and knowledge in order to move forward in the field.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Do tracking and check if date, time matches with the information on incident.
  2. Compile a tracking report on Word, format and print for records purposes on incident or accident.
  3. Keep on following up on driver reports that are outstanding.
  4. Scan and send incident to workshop for a job card after repairs.
  5. Obtain quantum from workshop and compare the damages with an incident or accident to ensure that the costs are correct.
  6. Search for job cards on older incidents on QSA.
  7. Phone SAPS for accident reports on a recovery claim.
  8. Obtain a licence trace on a recovery claim.
  9. Obtain information that can be of any help on a claim.
  10. Prepare the Postal Order payments and obtain Postal Orders at the Post Office.
  11. Scan each fine and payment to send as proof of payment.
  12. Investigate Goods in Transit load damages or shortages, and obtain statement from driver, do tracking report and all necessary to complete investigation.
  13. Filing to be done daily. Will be held responsible for all administrative filing and document compiling processes.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Grade 12/Matric.
  2. Must have an intention or already have started in a qualification in law.
  3. 3 – 5 years working experience will be advantageous.
  4. Familiarity with legal documents and terminology.
  5. Experience on Legal Suite will be advantageous.
  6. Proficiency with MS Office - Excel, Word, and Outlook are essential.
  7. Typing speed of at least 50 wpm with a high rate of accuracy.
  8. Able to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines.
  9. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
  10. Courteous and professional demeanor.
  11. Strong sense of discretion.
  12. Ability to converse in English, Afrikaans, and Xhosa and Zulu - advantageous.
  13. Must be able to communicate with all levels of employees and give legal support to them when required.
  14. Self-motivated and self-managed.
  15. Valid Driver’s License & own transport.
