CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
To facilitate teaching and learning in Zoology at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to contribute to the administration of the department as needed, and to undertake research and supervise and promote postgraduate research in Zoology.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in Zoology in the field of animal physiology.
2. Develop course material for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching modules.
3. Perform teaching-related and departmental administrative duties.
4. Attract external funding and provide research supervision to postgraduate students.
5. Conduct research and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals focused on Zoology and animal physiology.
6. Interact with relevant industry groups, government departments, and independent research institutes to further the goals of the Department and of the University.
7. Participate in community engagement related to animal science awareness and other service activities.
8. Provide academic leadership at appropriate levels within the teaching, learning and research arenas.
9. Manage an ecophysiology laboratory.
10. Provide input and leadership in the University’s animal ethics review and process.

Requirements

1. Qualifications: Minimum of an MSc in Zoology or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a PhD in Zoology or a related field.
2. Teaching: Minimum of 1-3 years of university level learning and teaching experience (including lecturing and course assessment) at undergraduate level in the field of Zoology, with postgraduate teaching experience advantageous.
3. Postgraduate supervision: Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record of postgraduate student supervision in the field of Zoology.
4. Publication: Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record of research publications in the field of Zoology in DHET accredited, ISI-rated journals.
