CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To facilitate the learning process in taxation for undergraduate and postgraduate students, the majority of whom intend to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA).

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

1. Facilitate the learning process in taxation (by taking responsibility for course material, lectures, tutorials and setting and moderating assessments) for undergraduate and postgraduate students, the majority of whom intend to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA) – both day and evening groups.
2. Undertake research and scholarly activities.
3. Supervise postgraduate students.
4. Engage with professional bodies and other stakeholders.
5. Perform related administrative duties.

CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Sound knowledge in the theory and application of South African tax legislation, case law, recent trends and developments in the field, evidenced, among others, by a sound record of accomplishment of academic performance in the subject area.
2. Experience in facilitating learning for undergraduate (lecturer) and/or postgraduate (senior lecturer) students intending to qualify as Chartered Accountants (SA).
3. Experience in academic leadership and/or course coordination (senior lecturer).
4. Potential to contribute to the creation of knowledge in research and publication (lecturer).
5. Relevant knowledge of research methodologies in the field of taxation and potential to supervise postgraduate students and be engaged in research and scholarly activities (senior lecturer).
6. The innate desire to deliver work of an excellent standard.
7. Strong communication (written/verbal) skills.
8. Initiative and motivation to work without needing extensive supervision.
9. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and be able to work as part of a team.
10. Strong administrative skills.

Requirements

In order to be considered for the senior lecturer rank, candidates should:

1. Be a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) (in good standing);
2. Be in possession of a Master's degree or equivalent NQF level 9 qualification specializing in South African taxation;
3. Have extensive relevant or related working experience (5 years) in the field of taxation and/or in the facilitation of learning in postgraduate taxation courses.

In order to be considered for the lecturer rank, candidates should:

1. Be a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) (or should have passed the professional examinations and be in the final year of obtaining the designation);
2. Be in possession of an Honour’s degree or equivalent NQF level 8 qualification specializing in South African taxation;
3. Have at least 3 years relevant or related working experience in the field of taxation and/or in the facilitation of learning in undergraduate and/or postgraduate taxation courses.
4. Preference will be given to candidates who have made progress towards a Master’s degree specializing in South African taxation and those with experience in facilitation of learning at the postgraduate level.
