Job Purpose
To contribute to curriculum development and to teach according to a set syllabus while providing support to the faculty in achieving its academic objectives, contribute to academic initiatives undertaken by the faculty to enhance learning while promoting entrepreneurship learning according to the needs of the community, support and expand programmes for cooperative education, undertake academic administration and faculty training initiatives, support faculty and departmental research initiatives by undertaking research and contributing towards group research and engage in work-integrated learning, and service-learning activities.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum Requirements for Lecturer (Permanent):
- A Master's Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology (obtained from an accredited and/or aligned SACAP institution) (The candidate must have obtained the relevant undergraduate underpinning qualification(s) within the field of study)
- At least two (2) years of relevant lecturing experience in Higher Education
- Eligibility to register with SACAP.
Recommendations:
- At least two (2) years of relevant lecturing experience at a post-qualification level at an accredited and/or aligned SACAP Architectural Learning Site
- At least two (2) years of professional practice in Architecture
- Track record in integrating design and technology in buildings of medium complexity up to medium-rise height.
- Experience in sustainability measures and specifications in architectural design and technology
- Certified course(s) with the Green Building Council of South Africa
- Excellent technical knowledge and experience in building design & construction in varied built environment contexts
- Ability to develop Research and contribute to a Research Focus Area and aspiration to improvement of qualification
- Excellent Revit, BIM, Adobe Suite and other digital draughting and presentation competencies
- Advanced skill in Architectural Technology and Architectural Design
Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's qualification in order to appoint at the Lecturer level.
Minimum Requirements for Junior Lecturer (5-year contract):
- A BTech/Honours Degree or equivalent in Architectural or Architectural Technology (Important: The candidates underpinning qualification(s) must have been obtained from a SACAP-accredited and/or aligned architectural learning site)
- The candidate is to be currently registered for a Master's Degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology or a Design related Masters qualification. Alternatively, the candidate to provide proof of application/acceptance for the year 2025.
Recommendations:
- At least one (1) year of relevant lecturing experience in Higher Education
- Minimum one (1) year of professional practice in Architecture
- Eligible for registration with SACAP
- Experience in building design & construction in varied built environment contexts
- Display an interest in research activities
- Excellent Revit, BIM, Adobe Suite and other digital draughting and presentation competencies
The appointment at Junior Lecturer level is a 5-year contract subject to completion of Master's degree qualification within this period. Upon completion of the Master's qualification, conversion to permanent and at Lecturer level will be subject to institutional governance for approval.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
- Deliver courses using Blended Learning methodologies at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level.
- Operate on Learner Management System (on the official University platform) over a range of courses
- Instruction in Revit and various digital presentation programs
- Participate in curriculum development and learning design
- Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
- Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department (internal and external)
- Participate in research and skills development
- Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into curriculum.
- Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on co-operative education, new techniques/technologies and research projects
- Assist with marketing and recruitment activities (incl.- Career Day and Open Day Events)
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
