CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
The strategic direction of the Department of Geosciences at the NMU in part concerns the function and sustainability of the Critical Zone, with a particular focus on Soil and Geomorphology. The NMU is therefore seeking to appoint a Physical Geographer in this department. The role of the incumbent of this position is to promote excellence through teaching and be part of a research team investigating among other things the role of soil in our natural environment and anthropogenic impacts on this critical resource. The candidate should contribute to strengthen relevant sub-branch areas of Physical Geography and should moreover provide support in Hydrology, Soil, Geomorphology and also be able to straddle areas of Geology and Earth Science in general. The successful candidate should perform administrative functions within the department and enhance coordination between its geological and geographical divisions and strengthen collaboration with other academics in trans-disciplinary studies. The successful candidate should be willing to commit to developing an academic career path which includes registering for a relevant PhD, if this has not happened already, and doing relevant research.
