Lead Engineer: Overhead Lines

Job Description

Our client is looking for a Lead Engineer: Overhead Lines with 10-15 years of experience to join our Projects Delivery division. You will work with a dynamic team of professional engineers and project managers passionately committed to world-class project delivery across the whole African continent.

You will implement best-in-class engineering design methodologies, project management and governance principles and systems unparalleled in the engineering space.

Responsibilities

• Design of high voltage transmission lines (132kV - 765kV).
• Manage high voltage transmission line projects including emergency, routine maintenance, and capital projects.
• Assemble and manage multidisciplinary design teams to execute assigned projects.
• Develop equipment and plant list for successful and safe execution of assigned overhead power line projects.
• Conduct detailed engineering calculations and modelling for power line projects.
• Support the SHERQ team in developing compliance documents required before commencing with construction and maintenance activities.
• Develop or approve safe working procedures for all assigned works to ensure a safe working environment.
• Support internal proposals development team with technical returnable when responding to transmission lines RFQs and RFPs.
• Develop Quality Control Plans and Method Statements for high-voltage transmission line projects.
• Communicate the status of assigned projects to the Head of the Projects Delivery division and external stakeholders (clients) on an ad-hoc and formal basis.
• Manage the electrical interfaces with other disciplines (mechanical, structural and others) during the design and execution phases of the project.
• Participate in the selection of subcontractors and management on-site to ensure a safe environment and high-quality implementation.
• Develop project cost estimations, including the compilation of Bill of Quantities (BOQs).
• Lead the implementation of projects from stage 1 (inception) to stage 6 (close-out) by completing conceptual to detailed designs, procurement support, construction supervision on site, and handover.
• Mentoring of junior personnel.

Requirements

• BSc / BTech / BEng in Electrical Engineering;
• 10+ years of experience in overhead power line designs and construction management;
• Experience in designing overhead power lines using PLS-CADD;
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng will be an added advantage;
• Strong knowledge of NEC-3 will be an added advantage;
• Experience in substation design and construction supervision will be an added advantage.
