Job Description:

You as a Project Lead Engineer will be part of Hitachi Energy based in Modderfontein, Gauteng, South Africa. As a Project Lead Engineer, you will be coordinating project engineering activities including the preparation and review of project engineering deliverables, monitoring of contractual scope, initiation of variation & change orders, conducting technical discussions, liaising with all stakeholders on technical matters, and monitoring engineering efforts for projects and tenders.

Your responsibilities:

• Coordinating with other engineering disciplines for substation projects and tenders.
• Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders for scheduled progress of projects and tenders.
• Reviewing equipment specifications and BOQ for supplier inquiries, technical offer reviews, monitoring and coordination of supplier deliverables, and resolution of technical issues during FAT.
• Following engineering processes, change management, risk and opportunities management, and other relevant processes during project execution and tendering.
• Coordinating with customers/consultants for document approvals as per project schedule.
• Coordinating with site teams for technical matters during installation, testing, commissioning, and punch point closure.

Your background:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Knowledge and expertise in Risk Management processes and HE Framework and Tool.
• Detailed domain expertise in one of the domains (either primary or secondary) is a must, with knowledge of other domains for effectively monitoring and supervising regular project engineering activities.
• Primary engineering of GIS and AIS substations, layouts, earthing, cabling, lightning protection, sizing calculations, BOQ estimation, RFQ, supplier offer verification, FAT, and MV systems.
• Secondary engineering of GIS and AIS substations, protection, relay panels, LCCs, SCADA/RTU/SCMS, FMS/DFR, Telecom, control cabling, CT/VT sizing, sizing calculations, BOQ estimation, RFQ, supplier offer verification, FAT, and MV systems.
• Engineering of Auxiliaries of GIS & AIS substations, including LV AC boards, service/auxiliary transformers, earthing transformers, DC systems (batteries and battery chargers), UPS, inverters, security systems, CCTV, access control, EPABX, sizing calculations, BOQ estimation, RFQ, supplier offer verification, and FAT.
• Experience in coordinating with civil and MEP disciplines in substations, providing inputs for civil and MEP engineering, and checking interfaces and coordination with civil & MEP services.
• Experience in preparing BOQ, deviation lists, clarifications, and technical proposals for tenders and customer inquiries for firm and budgetary tenders.
• Understanding of installation, testing, and commissioning requirements to effectively support the preparation of testing protocols and site activities.
• Minimum 10 years of work experience is required, with 3-4 years of experience in a lead role preferred.
• Proficiency in both spoken and written English.
