Job Description

To outline the responsibilities and authorities the Junior Technician in XRF has in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel:

  1. Must be able to record, evaluate and validate all XRF data.
  2. Must be conversant with report writing.
  3. Responsible for all daily document requirements and the distribution to the different departments.
  4. Responsible for the monthly time sheet accounting.
  5. Routinely provide training to operators.
  6. Completes tasks within the allocated time and plans work for operators to ensure that overall service goals of the laboratory are met.
  7. Responsibility to perform routine and non-routine Analytical operation on XRF Spectrometers if and as required.
  8. Responsible for the supervision of all analysis and reporting of results.
  9. Responsibility to ensure turnaround time is adhered to at all times, for work specified in regard to XRF analysis.
  10. Responsibility to draw up weekly status & production report with regard to internal analysis concerning the laboratory.
  11. Responsibility, under the guidance of Section Manager, to validate any new methods or modifications made for XRF analysis.
  12. Competent in the use of the LIMS.
  13. Must be able to do troubleshooting on instruments and methods used.
  14. Must know how to verify calibration standards, quality control standards, and Certified Reference Materials (CRMs).
  15. Managing Good Laboratory Practice.
  16. Must be able to help with the preparation of SANAS audits.
  17. Managing laboratory documentation.
  18. Responsibility to bring all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the Section Manager.
  19. Responsibility to ensure housekeeping in the XRF area is kept up to standard.
  20. Responsibility to record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments performed.
  21. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
  22. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.

Qualifications

Education

  • National Diploma Analytical Chemistry/BSc Chemistry
  • 5 Years laboratory experience

Experience

  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
  • Operational experience in a SANAS 17025 accredited facility
  • LIMS administration and operation
  • Experience in instrumentation, data collection and reporting
