Junior Technician

COMPANY DESCRIPTION : Our client is an electronic communications manufacturer and supplier based in Edenvale and they are looking for a Junior Technician to join their team as soon as possible.

JOB DESCRIPTION : As a Junior Technician, your responsibilities include monitoring and servicing systems, diagnosing problems and troubleshooting equipment, running tests and completing reports, updating and improving existing systems, and repairing or replacing faulty equipment.

You should collaborate with other professionals and be able to make useful recommendations wherever possible.

You require technical knowledge of various alarm systems, the installation, programming, and fault finding thereof.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Technical Support Desk
2. Telephonic and email support of RDC products and various alarm panels
3. Daytime support and custodian of the 24hr support line
4. National and international support
5. Custodian of Technical Support Mailbox
6. Assist customers with Control Room design as related to RDC products
7. Internal technical support to the departments as required
8. Network Maintenance
9. Field repairs, installation and maintenance of new radio equipment/systems (base stations & repeaters) whilst adhering to correct procedures and quality standards
10. Upgrading of equipment
11. Alignment of transceivers
12. Set-up and testing of New Base and Repeater equipment
13. Travel when necessary to both National and International customers
14. Equipment Testing
15. Testing of RDC products
16. Assist with development product testing
17. Create manuals
18. Fault finding down to component level
19. Technical Reporting
20. Compiling of weekly technical reports which include Nationwide network activity reports, GPRS down time reports, "Lock On" tracking reports, Radio activity reports, Incoming call reports and Nationwide FTT reports
21. Sales Support
22. Assist sales with technical queries as needed
23. Attend sales meetings in a technical capacity
24. Achieve certain goals in terms of customer maintenance and contracts
25. Field Support
26. After hours Standby duty for a 7-day period as determined by business requirements and according to a predetermined schedule.
27. This will be for both VHF and GPRS customers
28. On-site support for customers during working hours for all RDC products
29. Training
30. Conducting training sessions for RDC customers on RDC products as the business requires

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

1. Matric
2. Degree or completed coursework in Engineering or Electronics or relevant technical qualification certificate

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

1. Understanding of RF communication
2. Knowledge of networks and network infrastructure
3. Repair, install, replace, and service different systems and equipment.
4. Driver's license and own vehicle
5. Thorough understanding of electronics principles and design.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
7. Detail-oriented and organized.
8. Excellent problem-solving ability.
9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
