COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

Our client is an electronic communications manufacturer and supplier based in Edenvale and they are looking for a Junior Technician to join their team as soon as possible.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a Junior Technician, your responsibilities include monitoring and servicing systems, diagnosing problems and troubleshooting equipment, running tests and completing reports, updating and improving existing systems, and repairing or replacing faulty equipment. You should collaborate with other professionals and be able to make useful recommendations wherever possible.

You require technical knowledge of various alarm systems, the installation, programming, and fault finding thereof.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Technical Support Desk
   • Telephonic and email support of RDC products and various alarm panels
   • Daytime support and custodian of the 24hr support line
   • National and international support
   • Custodian of Technical Support Mailbox
   • Assist customers with Control Room design as related to RDC products
   • Internal technical support to the departments as required
2. Network Maintenance
   • Field repairs, installation and maintenance of new radio equipment / systems (base stations & repeaters) whilst adhering to correct procedures and quality standards
   • Upgrading of equipment
   • Alignment of transceivers
   • Set-up and testing of New Base and Repeater equipment
   • Travel when necessary to both National and International customers
3. Equipment Testing
   • Testing of RDC products
   • Assist with development product testing
   • Create manuals
   • Fault finding down to component level
4. Technical Reporting
   • Compiling of weekly technical reports which include Nationwide network activity reports, GPRS down time reports, “Lock On” tracking reports, Radio activity reports, Incoming call reports and Nationwide FTT reports
5. Sales Support
   • Assist sales with technical queries as needed
   • Attend sales meetings in a technical capacity
   • Achieve certain goals in terms of customer maintenance and contracts
6. Field Support
   • After hours Standby duty for a 7-day period as determined by business requirements and according to a predetermined schedule. This will be for both VHF and GPRS customers
   • On-site support for customers during working hours for all RDC products
7. Training
   • Conducting training sessions for RDC customers on RDC products as the business requires

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Matric
• Degree or completed coursework in Engineering or Electronics or relevant technical qualification certificate

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Understanding of RF communication
• Knowledge of networks and network infrastructure
• Repair, install, replace, and service different systems and equipment.
• Driver’s license and own vehicle
• Thorough understanding of electronics principles and design.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Detail-oriented and organized.
• Excellent problem-solving ability.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
