A well-established accounting and financial services firm is looking for a Junior Tax Accountant to join their team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and motivated individual with a strong foundation in accounting and taxation. The successful candidate will assist in preparing accounting records, drafting financial statements, filing tax returns, and conducting tax research under the guidance of senior staff.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation
2. 1+ years of experience in accounting and tax-related functions
3. Experienced in the following systems: Microsoft Excel / QuickBooks / Sage One / Xero / Zoho Accounting / SimplePay
4. Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax laws
5. Experienced in monthly VAT201, EMP201, and UIF submissions
6. Experienced in conducting PAYE reconciliations and submissions (EMP501)
7. Preparing and submitting tax returns (ITR14 / ITR12) for individuals, companies, and trusts
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, accounting software, and tax preparation tools
9. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines efficiently
10. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills
11. Effective communication and interpersonal skills
12. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
13. Prior internship or relevant work experience in accounting is advantageous

Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounting Responsibilities:

1. Perform general administration, filing, and e-Filing maintenance
2. Process client payroll data and maintain accurate financial records
3. Assist in drafting financial reports and statements
4. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with accounting policies
5. Stay updated on accounting regulations and best practices

Tax Responsibilities:

1. Handle general tax administration, filing, and e-Filing maintenance
2. Assist in preparing and filing various tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts (ITR14/ITR12)
3. Prepare and submit provisional tax returns for individuals, companies, and trusts
4. Manage monthly VAT201, EMP201, and UIF submissions
5. Conduct PAYE reconciliations and submissions (EMP501)
6. Perform tax research and analysis to support tax planning initiatives
7. Communicate with clients to gather tax-related information and documentation
8. Prepare workpapers and schedules to support tax filings
9. Participate in tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities
10. Stay informed on changes in tax laws and regulations
11. Provide general support to senior tax accountants and managers as needed
