Job description

We are looking to recruit a Legal Counsel with a strong track record of client service and a practical problem-solving approach to support our business and be a key member of our Group Legal team.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in commercial law particularly within the tourism and hospitality industries. A global mindset and solution-driven approach to legal challenges are essential. This role involves engaging with various business units across multiple industries and jurisdictions including foreign exchange, hotels, and lodges.

We operate as a small dynamic legal team actively involved in transactions from a legal perspective. Most commercial work is handled in-house with limited reliance on external counsel depending on the complexity of the matter.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Draft, review and assist with the negotiation of various commercial contracts.
  2. Draft and drive transactional agreements including Share Purchase Agreements, Heads of Agreement, and Sale of Business Agreements.
  3. Work across foreign jurisdictions with a willingness to learn and apply legal knowledge across different regions.
  4. Advise on and handle dispute resolution matters.
  5. Conduct legal research, draft legal opinions, and provide legal advice to the broader business where required.
  6. Assist with the implementation of contract management software.
  7. Develop a structured plan to ensure administrative consistency across offices.
  8. Create and distribute contract templates and checklists to standardize commercial agreements while accounting for regional variations.

TEAMWORK

  1. Build strong relationships across different business divisions.
  2. Provide support and guidance to colleagues ensuring effective communication of best practices.
  3. Be flexible and assist team members outside normal office hours when necessary.
  4. Travel as required for business needs.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Continuously develop legal and product knowledge by engaging with different business units and participating in relevant industry events.

REPORTING

Stay updated on all legal matters involving the company and provide timely reports when required.

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Ensure full compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  2. Identify and implement enhancements to existing legal processes.
  3. Submit timely reports and adhere to deadlines.
  4. Maintain confidentiality of all company-related information.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERTISE

  1. LLB or BA / BCom LLB degree.
  2. Extensive knowledge and experience in commercial contract law.
  3. 2 years post-admission experience in a well-established law firm, bar, or in-house legal team (a mix of private practice and in-house experience is preferable but not required).
  4. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  5. Experience in the tourism industry is an advantage but not required.
