Overview

Lecturing one or more subjects at a range of levels in a range of qualifications/learning programmes in a specific subject area or areas.

The lecturer must be able to design and deliver lectures, lead discussions, and conduct practical sessions to help students grasp concepts. The role includes assessment, marking, and student evaluation and support.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

1. Deliver engaging lectures, discussions, and practical sessions across various levels and qualifications.
2. Design and develop course content, lesson plans, and instructional materials in line with curriculum requirements.
3. Utilize diverse teaching methodologies to cater to different learning styles.
4. Ensure that students understand key concepts through interactive and innovative teaching techniques.

Assessment and Evaluation

1. Develop and administer assessments, assignments, and examinations.
2. Mark and grade student work fairly and consistently.
3. Provide constructive feedback to support student development.
4. Ensure assessments align with institutional and accreditation standards.

Student Support and Engagement

1. Offer academic guidance, mentoring, and consultation hours to support student learning.
2. Identify students who need additional support and implement strategies to assist them.
3. Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Academic Administration

1. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
2. Contribute to curriculum development and review.
3. Participate in faculty meetings, moderation, and other academic governance activities.

Continuous Professional Development

1. Stay updated with developments in the subject area and higher education teaching methodologies.
2. Engage in research, training, and professional growth opportunities.

Prior lecturing experience in person or online would be an advantage.

Requirements

The successful candidate must hold an NQF 7 qualification in Engineering.

Honours degree will be advantageous.

Prior lecturing experience: 2 years.

Strong English Language Skills (Written and Verbal).

Computer Literacy.

Ongoing studies in the discipline and/or a research record.
