The Legal Officer should have a strong commercial, corporate, contracts, and legal litigation background. The Legal Officer should be able to work unsupervised and ensure fail-safe systems to follow up on matters. Daily maintenance and reminders to the Legal Head on issues that affect the department and organization are required. The Legal Officer will manage casework and legal matters and oversee case review and legal matters. The Legal Officer will contribute to objectives based on involvement in policy and procedural review, continuous improvement, research, and development.
Educational requirements for Legal Officer:
LLB Degree or equivalent
Admitted attorney
Experience within a commercial environment/corporate is essential
3-5 years post-admission experience within a legal environment
Experience in company secretarial duties and regulatory compliance
Litigation experience essential
Drafting of pleadings, notices, and documents without supervision
Duties and responsibilities of Legal Officer:
Strong administrative and managerial skills
Attention to deadlines and timelines
Produce monthly status reports on all matters within the portfolio
Develop and manage legal assistance and casework
Undertake legal research in relation to allocated projects
Litigation in high court and magistrate’s court
Drafting of pleadings
Attending court/labour court/CCMA hearings
Liaising with counsel
Negotiating best deals/settlements
Assist with governance, compliance, and risk
Drafting agreements, internal leases, and contracts
