Job description

IT Support Engineer

ScottNET, an End-to-End ICT Solutions Provider, a division of Halfway with offices in JHB, Cape Town, and KZN, is sourcing an IT Support Engineer to provide Technical Support at client site.

The ideal candidate must have diverse hands-on experience and be comfortable in a client-facing role.

The role will be based in Johannesburg.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assist customers telephonically, in person, and remotely with any IT queries/problems.
  2. Service Desk Experience: 1st and 2nd Line Support experience.
  3. Timeously attend to alarms created within the Managed Services Platform.
  4. Log, assign, and resolve support cases on the service desk within the severities.
  5. Daily client backup monitoring and troubleshooting.
  6. Perform client visits as required.
  7. Create, manage, and maintain appropriate site documentation.
  8. Provide clients with accurate, detailed, and presentable monthly reports.
  9. Answer the help desk phone.
  10. Set up and manage Project Plans.
  11. Server Support Experience: Installation and configuration of Client Servers, building of Servers from 'bare metal', maintenance of Client Servers, Server OS knowledge, recovery from backups, Active Directory administration and support and recovery, HyperV and VM knowledge.
  12. Desktop Support Experience: Installation and configuration of Client Desktop Machines, building of Desktop Machines from 'bare metal', maintenance of Desktop Machines.
  13. Networking and Infrastructure Experience: General knowledge of Networking infrastructure including VLANs, installation and configuration of Client Infrastructure.
  14. Microsoft Experience: Office, admin, mail trace, exchange admin, security and compliance knowledge, SharePoint setup, plan, maintain, train, mail migrations/domain setup, plan, moving of Domains and moving Mail from hosted server.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  1. Matric is essential.
  2. Tertiary qualification in i.e., Computer Science and/or Information Technology.
  3. Must have at least 5 years proven work experience as a Technical Support Engineer, Desktop Support Engineer, and/or similar role.
  4. Good understanding of computer systems, mobile devices, and other technical products.
  5. In-depth knowledge of hardware and networking systems.
  6. Must be able to articulate technical issues clearly over the phone and in writing.
  7. A culture of service excellence and problem ownership.
  8. Effective problem resolution and troubleshooting/root cause analyses skills and experience.
  9. Extremely strong organisational and time management skills.
  10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
