Job Description

As an Intermediate Data Engineer, part of the RPP platform team, this role supports, maintains and develops databases and their applications to support the systems, Testing, QA and Production environments. The incumbent is individually accountable for achieving results through own efforts. Responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring and maintenance of complex database environments operating in AWS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED FOR THE JOB)

• Matric, with a degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Engineering.
• 3+ years of data engineering experience.
• Proficient in at least one of Python, Java, C/C++ or similar (Advantageous).
• Proficient in bash/ksh, perl, SQL.
• Experience with designing and implementing Cloud (AWS) solutions including use of APIs available.
• Knowledge of Engineering and Operational Excellence using standard methodologies.
• Some experience in applying SAFe/Scrum/Kanban methodologies.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• The ability to exercise judgment in solving technical, operational, and organizational challenges.
• Advanced administration experience with Oracle Database.
• Knowledge of Oracle RDS, Amazon Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, Athena, as well as AWS Database Migration Service (advantageous).
• Experience in Oracle WebLogic Server Administration.
• Experience with System Administration with Linux (RedHat, Oracle Linux) and/or Microsoft Windows Server.
• Experience or firm knowledge of Automation Required (SQL, Shell, Java Python, AWS CloudFormation).
• Database troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Experienced setting up monitoring/alarming for production DB environments.
• Database migration and ETL experience.
• Experienced with Linux system monitoring and analysis.
• Good understanding of distributed computing environments.
• Experience with query optimization.
• Good understanding of Virtualization technologies.
• Experience with AWS - any or all of EC2, S3, EBS, ELB, NLB, ALB, RDS, Dynamo DB, EMR.
• Firm understanding of security concepts/best practices.
• Experience with Load Balancing technologies such as KEMP.
• Experience troubleshooting the full application stacks from the OS up through custom applications.
• Knowledge of Test Data Management (advantageous).
• Create and maintain DevOps Pipelines in Azure DevOps (advantageous).

Designs, builds, and maintains the infrastructure that supports data storage, processing, and retrieval. Works with large data sets and develops data pipelines that move data from source systems to data warehouses and other data storage and processing systems.

Responsibilities

Data Architecture

Oversee data collection mechanisms and how they fit into data architecture, partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality and accuracy.

Data Management

Manage basic aspects of the data management system with guidance from senior colleagues.

Business Requirements Identification

Collect business requirements using a variety of methods to express the requirements in terms of target user roles and goals.

Databases Installation

Install and test complex databases and associated products to ensure they are suitable for use and meet customer requirements.

Infrastructure and Network Development and Maintenance

Design and select medium-complexity storage, data center, network, and client/server environments.

Information Security

Implement required security measures, such as firewalls or message encryption.

Documentation

Create and maintain technical and/or user documentation to a high standard.

Technical Developments Recommendation

Discuss and recommend technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/applications software.

Analysis of "As Is" and "To Be"

Support and contribute to the documentation of "as is" and "to be" processes.

Operational Compliance

Identify instances of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures.

Data Software Development

Develop existing data applications and contribute to the development of new applications.

Data Software Maintenance

Monitor, identify, and correct software defects to maintain fully functioning applications software.

Data Software Roadmap

Contribute to and maintain road map to facilitate data software development.

Design and Conceptualization

Produce multiple concepts and prototypes to design digital products/services.
