HSE Officer 6 Months Contract

Job Responsibilities:

1. Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local and international regulations.
2. Ensure all policies are communicated effectively to all employees and contractors.
3. Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the mining operation.
4. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls to prevent accidents and injuries.
5. Design and deliver safety training programs for all employees, including induction training for new hires and refresher courses.
6. Promote a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.
7. Lead or support investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
8. Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
9. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
10. Identify and rectify unsafe conditions or practices.
11. Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans for various scenarios.
12. Coordinate and conduct emergency drills and exercises to ensure readiness.
13. Implement and oversee waste management programs to ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
14. Promote recycling and waste reduction initiatives.
15. Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
16. Liaise with regulatory bodies and submit required reports and documentation.
17. Maintain accurate records of health, safety, and environmental incidents, audits, and inspections.
18. Prepare regular reports on HSE performance and progress.
19. Engage with employees, contractors, local communities, and other stakeholders on HSE issues.
20. Address concerns and provide information on safety and environmental practices.
21. Work closely with other departments and team members to integrate HSE considerations into all aspects of the mining project.
22. Provide guidance and support to line managers and supervisors on HSE matters.
23. Continuously evaluate and improve HSE programs and initiatives based on feedback and new developments.
24. Stay updated with the latest industry best practices, technologies, and regulations.
25. Any ad hoc tasks as requested by Management.

Education and Experience:

1. National Diploma in Safety Management or related qualification.
2. At least 8 years of experience within mining, specifically mineral processing industry.
3. Professional Registration will be preferred.
4. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Mining Safety Act.
