Health & Safety Officer (Packaging)

Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Officer for our packaging facility in Gauteng. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health and safety management, with specific experience in the packaging industry.

Responsibilities:

1. Monitor departments for unsafe behavior or regulatory breaches
2. Assess risks and safety hazards throughout Pride Pak Packaging
3. Create analytical reports on safety data
4. Inspect equipment and processes for safety
5. Order repairs for unsafe or damaged equipment
6. Focus on prevention through equipment maintenance and employee training
7. Present safety principles to staff in meetings or training sessions
8. Participate in continuing education to stay updated on health and safety protocols
9. Develop safety plans with recommendations for improving infrastructure and processes
10. Share information, suggestions, and observations with project leadership for consistent safety standards
11. Meet company health and safety goals
12. Investigate causes of accidents and unsafe conditions
13. Systematically address and solve problems as needed
14. Implement corrective and preventative measures
15. Liaise with law enforcement and investigators during serious accidents
16. Develop strategies to prevent future accidents
17. Review and report on staff compliance with health and safety rules, recommending commendations or dismissals based on performance

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related field
2. Proven experience as a health and safety officer in the packaging industry
3. Knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards in South Africa
4. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
6. Certification in First Aid and Fire Safety would be an advantage
