Health & Safety Officer – Northern Suburbs, Cape Town – Salary Dependent on Experience
POSITION INFO :
The Health & Safety Officer is the primary contact for all HSE matters. They ensure a safe working environment and compliance with OHS guidelines.
Requirements :
- 3 – 5 years’ experience as a Health & Safety Officer
- Diploma / Certificate in occupational health and safety
- Knowledge and experience of OH&S management systems
- Experience in writing safety reports and policies
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Valid driver’s license required
- Up-to-date on relevant Health & Safety legislation, regulations and safety procedures
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Key Responsibilities :
- Plan and implement OHS policies
- Advise and lead employees on safety topics
- Review and enforce policies and regulations
- Collaborate with HR on safety onboarding
- Document staff info, meeting minutes, and management reports.
- Prepare and present accident and violation reports, determining causes.
- Oversee workplace repairs, installations, and safety-sensitive work.
- Schedule and conduct on-site audits for improvement.
- Continuously assess risks on site.
- Provide OHS training, awareness, and induction on site.
- Engage with staff, contractors, and others on OHS matters.
- Maintain OHS statistical records on incidents, accidents, and working hours.
- Keep HSE registers updated, including permit renewals.
- Compile monthly site OHS reports.
- Take first-line responsibility for incident investigations.
- Monitor vendor / contractor performance and ensure suitability.
- Update HSE registers, including renewals of permits, licenses, etc.
