Health and Safety Officer

Job Title: Health and Safety Officer

Start Date: Mid-September for approximately 10 months.
Remuneration: R25 000.00 per month plus accommodation.
Reporting to: Executive Contracts Manager

Duties:

1. Utilise current health and safety legislation and/or regulations to ensure that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to ensure the safety and health of employees, clients, and visitors.
2. Investigate all accidents and incidents and make recommendations to management to prevent any re-occurrence of incidents.
3. Conduct Safety Audits on sites on a regular basis.
4. Accompany and assist in the Department of Labour investigations/or audits as required.
5. Ensure that all contractors and sub-contractors comply with the relevant Health and Safety requirements as per legislation and company specifications for projects.
6. Encourage employees to actively participate in SHE matters.
7. Conduct SHE Committee meetings.
8. Implement an action plan to correct non-compliant behaviour or conditions regarding safety and health.
9. Update and submit monthly safety, health, and environmental statistics.
10. Create SHE documentation templates as required.
11. Compile SHE reports as required.
12. Conduct monthly internal audits to ensure full legal compliance.
13. Manage, implement, and report on NOSA audit as required.
14. Update documentation as per NOSA audit findings.
15. Advise on changes in legislation and legal requirements.
16. Initiate and participate in disciplinary action against employees not adhering to policies and procedures with regards to safety.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

1. Grade 12
2. Registration with the SACPCMP
3. Fully proficient in Office 365
4. Incident and accident investigation qualification
5. Risk Assessor qualification
6. Fall protection planner/developer qualification
7. Working at Heights (at least level 2)
8. Working in confined spaces with a certificate of competence
9. Fall protection planner (experience in fall protection or valid certificate)
10. First aid L2 (previous certificate or valid certificate with experience)
11. Rope access experience
12. Basic lifting and rigging experience
13. HIRA certificate
14. SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

5 Years in a similar role
