What are we looking for?

  • An appropriate academic and professional education qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Relevant experience in teaching Social Sciences.
  • 2+ years as a sport coordinator.
  • Sport Science qualification.
  • 1+ years in sport management.
  • Current SACE registration
  • CAPS curriculum experience is essential
  • A clear criminal record is essential
  • Personal commitment to education and a willingness to contribute to the values and ethos of the school

The responsibilities are:

Sports programme planning and administration

  • Create annual sports plans to support sporting activities across the primary school based on district schedules and CURRO calendars.
  • Plan and set up sporting roster and extramural programme for the year and per term.
  • Create and manage communications to parents regarding sports activities.
  • Arrangement of transportation to schools.
  • Create and manage the process of indemnity and permission slips for all sporting events.
  • Provide input into marketing process including providing of content and writing of newsletters as relating to sports.
  • Oversee and manage all sporting activity processes including biometrics on buses.
  • Assign and Plan staff duties roster including coaches, marshals, officials etc.
  • Recruit and select outside coaches and manage contractors.
  • Plan and order sports equipment and budget management for all sporting activities.
  • Represent schools on district planning committees.
  • Plan and manage first aid support at all events including outsourcing.
  • Setting of awards criteria and management of creation of awards
  • Relationship building with neighbouring schools.

Coaching of sports and grow coaches

  • Assigning of coaches to various sports and teams
  • Research coaching clinics for growth of coaches and assign coaches to learning opportunities
  • Coaching of current coaches
  • Coaching in own sporting discipline
  • Put in place health and safety protocols
  • Officiation at matches

Sports Health and Safety

  • Review all health and safety requirements including fields and equipment.
  • Put in place health and safety protocols in line with the school’s general health and safety policy.
  • Set up of safety and security protocols for all events.
  • Sports field maintenance
  • Sporting event security management

Physical education

  • Planning of Physical education programmes (CURRO achievement programme).
  • Design cross sport talent identification and skills development.
  • Design Physical education assessments including sport specific rubrics.
  • Review assessments to search for hidden talent and encourage growth of new sports talent.

Sports events and tours management

  • Identify potential sporting camps across all sports.
  • Plan sports events and tours calendar annually.
  • Assess quality of camps.
  • Budget for sports events and camps.
  • Plan and management major sporting events from beginning to end.
  • Planning for regional and national CURRO events.

Subject teaching

  • Plan and set up assessment roster for the term for subject.
  • Set up the demarcation for each assessment during the term as per the grade.
  • Monitor and adjust planning throughout the term as per unforeseen events.
  • Set up and design of classroom for optimal performance of class and based on specific needs.
  • Designing and setting up of atmosphere in class to suit the grade.
  • Setting of rules and boundaries to manage discipline.
  • Communication and relationship building with learners and parents (newsletters, sporting letters, outings letters etc.)
  • Take attendance registers.
  • Plan lessons to be interactive and creative.
  • Make use of modern days tools and processes
  • Managing the teaching pace based on the learners.
  • Set up workbooks as per specifications.
  • Make sure that learners are aware of events, homework etc.

Staff Management

  • Interviewing and selection of coaches.
  • Mentoring and management of coaches.
  • Input into Staff appraisals.
  • Management of disciplinary issues with Head of Primary school.

The successful candidate will start on 01 January 2025.
