Head of Finance

Introduction

Grindrod Terminal SA (Pty) Ltd is looking to secure the permanent services of a Head of Finance to join their Durban office. All suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for this vacancy.

Main Purpose of the role:

To lead the financial, risk management and administrative operations through the development of financial and operational strategy, and measurements linked to the strategy; and the development and monitoring of control systems to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to:

• Contribute to the strategic and business planning process from a general business and financial perspective
• Identify key business themes to be cascaded for the EXCO sub-committees
• Research and lead / contribute to initiatives to drive performance in the respective areas e.g. Strategic Manpower and Talent Management; Transformation, Social and Ethics, ESG, Risk.
• Communicate and facilitate rollout of standard Bulk programmes and programmes in own area
• Focus on fulfilling fiduciary duties, corporate governance, business ethics and sustainability in line with King IV guidelines and principles of corporate citizenship
• Provide financial input to the business strategy
• Ensure that the accounting processes and records are correctly managed, maintained and supported by adequate structures
• Monitor CAPEX spend and review CAPEX against strategic priorities, ROI and business affordability
• Oversee the development and ongoing review of the Procurement strategy and policy
• Review practices and systems to ensure that the organisation complies with best practice in corporate governance
• Determine the tax structure and climate for the organisation and monitor compliance with tax requirements
• Manage and report on inventory levels
• Monitor, analyse and report on major costs and trends
• Develop financial business plan for Bulk
• Lead the development of a financial development system.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications:

• Honours in financial management and accounting
• Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles
• Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations
• Knowledge and experience of related computer applications

Preferred Qualification:

• Chartered Accountant
• Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles
• Knowledge of economic principles
• Knowledge of auditing practices and principles
• Knowledge of applicable laws
• Knowledge and experience of related computer applications

Minimum Period of Experience/ Training (Describe Typical Experience Background):

• 10-15 years’ experience in the management of financiais systems and budgets
• Financial reporting
• Financial data analysis, auditing and taxation
