Head of Engineering - Mining - Northern Cape

We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Head of Engineering to join one of our esteemed mining clients. This pivotal role will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all engineering activities within the assigned section or plant. The successful candidate will ensure adherence to statutory and legal requirements while managing a diverse range of responsibilities including engineering organizational structure, contractor management, workshop facilities, and customer relationship management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Support Function: Provide comprehensive support to engineering teams and departments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and efficient execution of engineering activities.
2. Budget Management and Control: Develop, manage, and oversee the engineering budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and adherence to financial constraints.
3. Optimization and Investigations: Lead efforts to optimize engineering processes and address engineering challenges through rigorous investigation and problem-solving.
4. Project Management: Oversee engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to scope, and effective management of resources and stakeholders.
5. Costing and Capital: Manage costing and capital expenditure for engineering initiatives, ensuring financial prudence and alignment with project budgets.
6. Risk Management and Legal Compliance: Identify and mitigate risks associated with engineering activities, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
7. Asset Management: Oversee the management and maintenance of engineering assets, ensuring their optimal performance and longevity.
8. Infrastructure Maintenance: Ensure the ongoing maintenance and improvement of infrastructure, addressing any issues promptly to maintain operational efficiency.
9. Engineering Processes and Systems: Develop and implement robust engineering processes and systems to enhance operational effectiveness and support organizational objectives.
10. Strategic Leadership and Influence: Provide strategic direction and leadership to engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
11. SHERQ Adherence and Compliance: Ensure adherence to Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) standards within your area of responsibility, promoting a safe and compliant work environment.
12. Work Ethics: Uphold the highest standards of work ethics, demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to organizational values.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

1. Minimum of ten (10) years operational Engineering (appointed Section Engineer) and Production experience within a mining and plant environment.
2. Minimum of five (5) years Project Management experience.
3. Diploma / Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.
4. Government certificate of competence (Mines and Works) certificate in Engineering.
5. Post graduate qualification (MSc, MBA, MDP, Management or related).
6. Qualification in middle management or equivalent.
