Job description

A vacancy on the permanent, full-time staff has arisen in respect of the Head of Department, History. The successful applicant is ideally expected to be able to take up the post from 20 July 2025.

The responsibilities of the post are focused on:

  1. Leading the team of History teachers;
  2. Ensuring a complete and relevant teaching & assessment programme for History;
  3. Fostering enthusiasm for History;
  4. Maintaining a high standard of pupil achievement in History, especially at Grade 12 level;
  5. Maintaining the high profile of History within the College;
  6. Contributing positively to our co-curricular and pastoral care programmes.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will be in possession of a relevant degree, professional teaching qualification, and be SACE registered. The following will be advantageous:

  1. Being involved in an IEB History cluster group;
  2. Ten years full-time History Teaching experience in the FET Phase of a Secondary School;
  3. Thorough knowledge of the National Curriculum and/or IEB teaching experience;
  4. IEB marking experience;
  5. Experience in leading a History department and/or other managerial responsibilities;
  6. Experience with teaching A level History (not a requirement).

Police Clearance, Sexual Offenders and Child Protection clearances are all required to be submitted. Hilton College implements a transformation and diversity policy, and all students and staff are required to support the ethos of the school.
