Key Areas of Responsibility

Growth

  • Lead the origination and development of Growth opportunities (M&A, greenfield and brownfield projects) across the US and Canada in generation and commercialization of LFG in accordance with the group strategic plan. Support/drive the broader Group push for Renewables market assessment in North America.
  • Initiate strategic opportunities for the business using knowledge of market and macro-economic factors.
  • Maintain and develop a strong interface with key stakeholders: customers, partners, competitors and industry commercial groups (RNG, ABC, etc.).
  • Refine and implement the North America Growth Plan in accordance with the group strategic plan.
  • Foster the development of commercial, technical and financial innovation which will provide a competitive advantage to EDL.
  • Manage negotiation of commercial agreements with customers and stakeholders for new and existing growth opportunities.
  • Lead strategic studies and maintain up-to-date knowledge of market and industry trends.
  • Develop/maintain a comprehensive understanding of the macro market dynamics in the LFG markets in North America and stay current on broader Renewables developments.

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor and manage a team of people of various backgrounds and skills to support delivery of the company's clean energy growth objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with the NA CEO and the North American Leadership Team ("NALT").
  • Work collaboratively and present on NA BD with the Global Executive Leadership Team ("ELT").
  • Lead by example on all aspects of EDL's business, with a particular focus on Safety Leadership.

General

  • Contribute to the operations and growth of the company as a senior member of the NALT.
  • Actively ensure own health and safety and the health and safety of others through understanding and implementing workplace health and safety obligations.
  • In addition to the duties set out above, the Head of Business Development, NA may be expected to perform other duties appropriate to the level and responsibility of the position as assigned from time to time by the Company.

Job Environment

The Head of Business Development, NA will be a member of the NALT, reporting directly into the NA CEO. The person will provide support to make company decisions, implement business strategy, implement the group HSE plan, develop people and talent within the business and deliver the company targets in the areas of safety, growth and financial delivery. As such, this role will be part of the NALT, responsible for managing this business within EDL. The person will be required to work with other members of the NALT to manage and prioritize resources accordingly. The job environment will be dynamic, and the person will need to maintain high corporate standards. The position will be remote but expected to travel as needed to both the NA offices in East Lansing, MI as well as domestic and international travel. The position requires a motivated and committed individual who can lead people, working with the NALT and working with the ELT producing output of a high quality. An ability to work in an environment with constantly changing priorities is integral to the role. The Head of Business Development, NA is expected to support and comply with relevant company policies and endorse the SPIRIT values of the business.

  • Proven ability to drive growth in a Renewables market.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant academic qualifications in either a business, engineering or scientific discipline with strongly developed marketing competency gained through relevant work experience in energy markets.
  • Deep experience in the following areas is essential: - Economic and financial modelling in a commercial environment.
  • Market assessment, risk analysis and strategic planning.
  • Regulatory influences and responses in energy markets.
  • Joint venture management and negotiation.
  • Mergers and acquisitions.
  • Complex contract negotiation, administration and management.
  • Relationship management skills.
  • Proven Commercial and Business Development track record.
  • Comfortable operating at C-Suite level.
