Purpose: The Group Logistics Manager is responsible for creating and executing the global logistics strategy for the organization and coordinating supply chain processes that involve key stakeholders throughout the value chain including suppliers, manufacturing, agents, and customers. Their scope of work is group-wide and encompasses distribution management within logistics, including transportation, stockpiling, and monitoring the flow of product according to best practice standards and stakeholder expectations.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a group-wide strategic focus on all Logistics matters, including external functions and stakeholders where possible.
Development and implementation of an effective Logistics strategy for the organization.
Conduct short- and long-term planning, utilizing risk management assessments and making independent decisions concerning procedures based on an understanding of the organization’s dynamics.
Ensure that costs are contained while maintaining high levels of impact and performance across the function.
Accountable for financial performance (measurement budget/tender vs. actual).
Ensure and initiate steps to protect the company’s assets.
Lead the development and maintenance of relationships with internal stakeholders by being the first point of contact for queries and needs relating to delivery requirements.
Manage internal and external stakeholder expectations on the delivery of logistic services by providing effective, open, swift communication and issue resolution.
Use queries/complaints to understand logistical problems, gather appropriate information, establish root causes and seek and propose solutions.
Conduct regular visits to ensure smooth operations across the value chain.
Lead and direct all staff within the function as well as any relevant stakeholders on projects and initiatives.
Ensure the creation of an environment where staff are developed, engaged, and successfully retained.
Ensure adherence to relevant compliance regulations and legislation i.e. occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Ensure adherence to procedures pertaining to Loading and Offloading procedures and Safety and security standards.
Issuing new directives and changed procedures to ensure operational and process efficiencies and control are maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
15 Years’ experience in Logistics, including 5 years in a senior management position.
Knowledge of legal requirements for transport of goods.
Experience in a Mining environment where yellow equipment and specialized vehicles were used is required, as well as port experience – not negotiable.
Experience in dealing with road, rail, and sea transport.
