Graduate Piping Engineer

Technical Design Ability - Under supervision completes technical design work using company and client design methods, standards and data in line with Project requirements. Provision of support to designers.

Technical Expertise - Possesses proficient levels of technical expertise required to do the job, however continuously work towards improving and updating technical abilities. Will personally seek out opportunities to develop technical knowledge base.

Cross Discipline Project and Team Interaction - Appreciation of project set up and team structure across disciplines. Under guidance working with other discipline designers.

Understanding and Meeting Schedule and Schedule Dependencies - Awareness of personal targets for deliverable production and deliverable schedule.

Commercial Awareness and Customer Focus - Under direction develops the engineering requirement.

Interpretation of Engineering Requirements - Under direction develops the engineering requirement.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for ensuring the mechanical integrity and code compliance of all piping designs on assigned projects.
2. Prepare project specific standards and job notes.
3. Prepare requisition index for special piping items, indicating planned issue date for each requisition and update monthly.
4. Prepare general notes requisitions or purchasing requirements for piping.
5. Update pipe stress index on a monthly basis.
6. Review flowsheets for correctness of depicting piping and material.
7. Design and requisition piping special piping items.
8. Ensure the technical accuracy of specifications within the 3D design system and maintain relevant reference data, as required.
9. Prepare support sketches for the drawing office.
10. Prepare and check piping bulk requisitions in conjunction with the MTO group.
11. Review all piping drawings and ensure that the quality of design and drawings produced for enquiry and fabrication purposes is of satisfactory standard.
12. Prepare technical bid analysis for special piping items.
13. Prepare and check piping bulk technical evaluations from the MTO group.
14. Attend co-ordination meetings and engineering review meetings with suppliers as required.
15. Review document requirements and issue dates for major equipment with suppliers and assist Procurement Department in compiling a Suppliers' Document Index.
16. Assist Procurement Department with the expediting of supplier documents.
17. Review supplier documents for piping and distribute.
18. Give guidance to Client, Project Engineers, other Specialist Engineers and Inspectors on piping engineering matters. Review piping aspects of package unit suppliers' drawings, as requested by the Engineer responsible for the equipment.
19. Advise the Principal/Senior Piping Engineer of any slippages and their causes and proposed corrective action.
20. Advise the Principal/Senior Piping Engineer of any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups.
21. Co-ordinate with Procurement Department and ensure that certified drawings are available in time to meet the engineering schedules.
22. Notify the Project Engineer of all deficiencies in the flow of data or other basic information required for execution of work.
23. Assist the Principal/Senior Piping Engineer with the monthly progress reports.
24. Follow up piping construction work on projects sites to ensure correct interpretation of designs regarding installation. Resolve any piping problems arising during commissioning.
25. Keep abreast of developments in the piping engineering field.
26. Suggest ways to improve efficiency, costs and service in the execution of projects.
27. Assist where necessary in the compilation of operating manuals and mechanical catalogues.
28. Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal/Senior Piping Engineer.

Qualifications:

• BSc, BEng, BTech
• None to 2 Years minimum experience
