Job Description

The position of General Engineering Supervisor assist the engineer with general supervision of section engineering activities for mining, processing equipment and infrastructure.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

1. Supervises and assists with coordination of engineering activities safely, efficiently and cost effectively to meet short term production objectives.
2. Manages resources to deliver maintenance and operational targets.
3. Ensures compliance with all legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and best practices.
4. Manages, controls and motivates team in area of responsibility.
5. Establishes and maintains strong relationships with relevant stakeholders.
6. Contributes to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives for engineering processes.
7. Ensure adherence to the Mine Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and legal requirements.
8. Manage and control the allocation of funds to ensure adherence to approved budgeted expenditure.
9. Effectively communicate and manage required inputs and outputs between sections under his/her management and other sections within the production stream.
10. Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health & Safety Act regulations, manufacturing and company standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Supervisor.

Qualifications

1. Minimum N4 certificate - Millwright, Boilermaker, Electrical or Mechanical or relevant trade qualification.
2. Preferred: Recognised Diploma or Degree in relevant discipline.
3. Minimum of 5 years previous supervisory experience.

Role-specific knowledge:

1. Supervisory (Foreman) experience in the mining environment.
2. Thorough understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment principles and ability to implement effective controls to manage risks within the section.
3. The ability to develop and implement processes that require a command of highly specialised technical and basic research skills across a broad discipline.
4. Good understanding of Continuous Business Improvement principles and the ability to effectively implement them within several sections.
5. Strong analytical skills.
6. Sound knowledge of mining disciplines and machinery.
7. Ability to plan, organise and prioritise.
8. Good customer and interpersonal skills.
9. Ability to function individually and as part of a team.
10. Teamwork and networking skills.
11. Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal).
12. Results driven.

Required Skills:

1. Independent, proactive thinking and have the ability to do own job planning including SAP.
2. Ensure and maintain sound budget control.
