Gearbox Technician/Gearbox Specialist

Location: Salt River, Cape Town

Duties & Responsibilities:

As a Gearbox Technician/Gearbox Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

1. Performing transmission repairs as outlined.
2. Diagnosing the cause of malfunctions accurately.
3. Removing, disassembling, and repairing transmission units.
4. Advising on additional work needed or repairs that cannot be made.
5. Communicating with the parts department to obtain necessary parts.
6. Installing transmissions, replacing fluids, and making adjustments.
7. Road testing vehicles when required or referring to a test technician.
8. Documenting work performed and recommendations on repair orders.
9. Staying updated on manufacturer technical bulletins.
10. Supervising apprentice technicians as assigned.
11. Reporting machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
12. Maintaining the cleanliness of Company vehicles.
13. Ensuring a neat and organized shop area.
14. Being accountable for all Company-owned tools and manuals.
15. Complying with safety regulations and reporting safety issues to management.
16. Operating tools and equipment safely.
17. Performing additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements, Attributes, and Skills:

1. Own tools required.
2. Grade 12 qualification.
3. Minimum of 15 years’ experience as a Gearbox Technician/Gearbox Specialist.
4. Code 14 Driver’s License.

2. The ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
3. Competence in basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

5. An ability to effectively present information to small groups and individuals.
