Job Description
An NPO focused on the development of children is seeking an experienced Financial Controller with a passion for making a difference, to join their team. This is a full-time permanent position and is office-based.


As the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for producing accurate and timely financial statements, managing accounting processes and policies, coordinating budgeting, and ensuring compliance with regulations and standards. The Financial Controller is to ensure the financial health and integrity of the company, as well as to support strategic decision-making by providing relevant data and analysis. You will also have to act as a liaison between the finance function and other departments.


Responsibilities:


  • Daily capturing of the bank statements in Pastel
  • Daily capturing of supplier invoices in Pastel
  • Daily capturing of sales invoices in Pastel
  • Daily capturing of the credit card transactions
  • Counting and preparing of banking
  • Capturing payments on the internet banking system
  • Capturing transfers on the internet banking system
  • Capturing of donations in kind
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly debtor reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly supplier reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly invoice to GRT for payment
  • Capture month-end journals on Pastel
  • Capture inter-group transactions between SA, the UK and the Netherlands
  • Capture staff timesheets to various programmes on Pastel
  • Capturing various petty cash and replenishing petty cash
  • Responsible for the month-end procedures on Pastel
  • Prepare monthly management reports
  • Calculate and prepare 2-monthly VAT calculations
  • Keep a record of a.18A certificates issued
  • Prepare a.18A certificates for the Finance Manager to sign
  • Monthly spot checks on stock for the Trust
  • Check stock corrections on Pastel that are accurately and timeously done
  • Check any new stock orders (quantity, price etc.)
  • Update the asset registers monthly
  • Assist with annual budget preparations
  • Assist with the annual financial audit preparation
  • Assist auditors with annual audit information
  • Assist other staff with budget and financial queries
  • Ensure records are properly filed and easily accessible
  • Ensure invoice details are correct before processing for payment
  • Assist financial manager if needed with annual funding reports to donors
  • Assist the finance manager if needed with ad-hoc tasks and information needed

General:


  • Assist with and strengthen programmes which need assistance so that all departments can excel
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors/agencies to execute advertising, marketing, direct mail, and public relations campaigns
  • Remain tuned in to cultural trends in health, fitness, sports, tech, and music
  • Stay as fluid and adaptable as possible
  • Provide administrative and clerical support for special events
  • Always maintain a professional and approachable manner as an ambassador for the vision and mission of the company
  • Live and breathe the company ethos

Requirements


  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Several years of experience in accounting, auditing, or finance management, preferably in a senior or supervisory role
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and quality
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in accounting software, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Ability to communicate in at least 2 official languages of South Africa

Office Hours


08h00 - 16h00 Monday - Thursday (30 minutes lunch)
08h00 - 16h00 Friday (no lunch hour)
