Financial Accountant

My client is a thriving powerhouse in South Africa’s renewable energy space, and they’re looking for a sharp Financial Accountant to take charge of the numbers behind several of their solar and wind plants nationwide. Based in Cape Town, this role isn’t your typical finance role — you’ll be in charge of financial reporting, month-end processes, tax compliance, and asset management in a fast-moving sector that is booming in South Africa. Responsibilities:

1. Lead monthly financial reporting processes, including preparation of shareholder, board, and stakeholder reports with variance analysis
2. Oversee month-end close activities: accruals, tax and deferred tax entries, intercompany transactions, and revenue invoicing
3. Prepare and manage balance sheet reconciliations and income statement reviews; complete year-end financial packs
4. Ensure accurate completion and timely filing of statutory tax returns (VAT, Income Tax, WHT)
5. Manage cash flow, ensuring timely debtor receipts and creditor payments, and maintain debt schedules
6. Handle compliance reporting for external institutions; support procurement spend tracking
7. Coordinate and contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes, including system uploads
8. Support annual audit by providing documentation and addressing auditor queries
9. Maintain and update fixed asset registers, including asset creation and disposals
10. Provide ad hoc financial and operational support, including BBBEE reporting and vendor management
11. Contribute to group-wide finance initiatives and reporting tasks across the group

Requirements:

1. CA(SA) qualified with 3 - 5 years post-articles experience in a commercial environment
2. Strong technical foundation in finance and reporting, with solid business acumen
3. Sharp attention to detail and accuracy across all work
4. Highly organized and deadline-driven; able to prioritize effectively under pressure
5. Confident problem-solver with a logical, solution-focused mindset
6. Clear communicator — responsive, articulate, and able to engage across all levels
7. Self-starter who learns fast, works independently, and thrives in a dynamic team environment
