Job Title: Financial Manager

Location: Head office in Cape Town

Job Description

Financial and Management Reporting

  1. Direct report to Managing Director on financial matters.
  2. Review monthly financial statements, management reports, and cash flow.
  3. Ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial reports, perform financial analysis, and meet corporate compliance with respect to legal, statutory, and operational accounting policies and requirements.
  4. Budgetary planning and control.
  5. Preparation of financial information for Board of Directors' meetings.
  6. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and other regulatory requirements.
  7. Develop, seek approval, and implement accounting standards, procedures, and practices.
  8. Prepare monthly cash flow reports and control cash flow to ensure that the company has sufficient funds.
  9. Ensure jobs are invoiced within required lead times.
  10. Reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
  11. Monthly preparation of accruals and provisions.
  12. Jointly authorise bank payments.
  13. Check creditors' reconciliations before payment.
  14. Check petty cash balances and authorise reimbursements.
  15. Manage interim and year-end audits.
  16. Preparation of Group consolidation pack and communicate with auditors for sign-off.
  17. Prepare and submit financial statements before deadlines.
  18. Quarterly consolidation pack for Group reporting.
  19. Liaison with financial institutions, insurance providers, and other service providers.
  20. Maintain company records and fixed asset register.
  21. Ensure that the Authorisation Matrix is up-to-date and signed by the Company Manager.
  22. Annual WCA submission and calculation of monthly leave accrual.

Managing Day-to-Day Operations

  1. Manage daily financial and accounting matters.
  2. Lead the Finance Department.
  3. Review daily and monthly cash flow reports.
  4. Provide ongoing support and training to drive improvements and staff development.
  5. Handle ad hoc responsibilities.
  6. Manage bank facilities, signatories, authorisation limits, and compliance matters.

Internal Control

  1. Development and implementation of internal control processes and procedure documentation.

Taxation Matters

  1. Tax planning and computation of the company's tax matters.
  2. Compliance work for VAT and corporate tax returns, verify computation of tax provision.
  3. Liaise with tax agents, SARS, and relevant government departments on various corporate taxation matters.

Treasury Matters

  1. Ensure effective Treasury and Cash Flow management.
  2. Foreign exchange experience is a must.
  3. Exchanging foreign currency to local currency.

HR Responsibilities

  1. Maintenance and updating of GHS confidential employee files and databases.
  2. Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and exit formalities.
  3. Accountable for updating staff records and processing staff salaries.
  4. Accountable for office and staff insurances.
  5. Arrange travel insurance for foreign travel.

Job Requirements

  1. Minimum of 5-10 years' experience.
  2. Bachelor's degree.
  3. Affiliation to a professional body is preferred but not required.
  4. In-depth knowledge of Forex.
  5. Above-average knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft programs.
  6. Prior experience working on ERP systems.
  7. Prior experience managing a team of staff.
  8. Above-average communication skills (written and verbal).
  9. Good people skills and organisational skills (able to multi-task and prioritise).
  10. Good understanding of budgets, profits, and losses.
  11. Management reporting and decision-making skills.
  12. Ability to work under pressure and long hours when needed.
