The purpose of this position is to maintain, service, and repair material handling equipment, systems, and products on company premises in a timely and cost-effective manner so that customer and company requirements are met; maintaining vehicle records.

Key Performance Areas:
(Essential Duties & Responsibilities)
To perform this job successfully, the appointed individual must be able to perform each essential duty / key performance area satisfactorily. This list of key performance areas is not exhaustive and may be changed/supplemented to accommodate business needs from time to time:

1. Servicing material handling equipment and maintaining forklift serviceability to specified standards and according to set procedures by delivering quality service/maintenance.
2. Perform accurate diagnosis/troubleshooting in the event of a breakdown of equipment; communicate what repairs are needed by advising the customer and/or supervisor.
3. Maintains vehicle maintenance and operational data/history by updating and timeously communicating information that must go on record.
4. Provide complete customer satisfaction in a polite and professional manner.
5. Ensure proper communication between self, workshop staff (supervisor and controller), and customer.
6. Ensure OHSACT requirements are met in all actions on company and client premises; maintain a safe work environment by verifying vehicle safety device operations, following standards and procedures, and in general complying with legal regulations.
7. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills Education / Training, and Experience Requirement(s):
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education/training, and experience required for this position:

1. Matric, Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
2. Trade Qualification, plus experience with forklifts or similar material handling equipment; or Qualified Forklift Mechanic.
3. Minimum of 5 years of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical experience on forklifts.
4. General working knowledge of auto electrical systems (ignition, starting, charging, illumination).
5. Excellent work ethic – honest, reliable, hardworking, dedicated, and takes pride in work carried out.
6. Highly developed prioritizing and multi-tasking skills; strong sense of urgency; problem-solving and decision-making skills.
7. Excellent communication skills with people at all levels in an organization.
8. Dedication to service excellence in every aspect of work carried out; strong focus on attention to detail and accuracy.
9. Ability to work with little or no supervision and still complete tasks timeously; enthusiastic, self-motivated, and can use own initiative.
10. Ability to work under pressure.

12. Ability to interpret and apply technical information.
13. Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, operations manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications.
14. Ability to identify and correctly utilize relevant diagnostic equipment and specialized tools.

20. Must be of sober habits, have high energy levels and general good health – must be declared fit for physical performance requirements of these tasks - physically able to carry, lift, and move heavy objects; must be able to stand and sit for long periods; must be able to bend, stretch, twist, and reach with body, arms, and/or legs.

Required Certificates, Licences, Registrations:

1. Trade test certificate.
2. Code 8 / EB driver's licence.
3. Valid forklift operator licence.
