Farm Diesel Mechanic

The Maintenance / Farm Foreman is responsible for all maintenance and repairs. This includes tractors, bakkies, farm equipment, irrigation systems, buildings, and yard. In the situation when the farm manager isn't available, the assistant manager stands in to keep the daily operations going.

• Areas of expertise / activities include:
• Diesel engines, automotive- and 3-phase electric systems, boiler making.
• Manage & train farm drivers and operators when they assist with maintenance and repair work.
• Oversee / execute field work and irrigation in absence of farm manager.
• Control maintenance parts stock and ordering of parts.
• Update maintenance and stock reports.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Ensure that maintenance & repairs of farm equipment are done.
• Keep farmyard and workshop in a clean state.
• Complete farm irrigation system maintenance and repairs on time and avoid repeat failures.
• Supervise staff and field operations in absence of the farm manager.

REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12.
• Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate (preference will be given to candidates with boiler-making & electrical experience).
• Valid driver's license (truck driving license will be an added advantage).
• At least 5 years of working experience, working independently, executing farm equipment maintenance and repairs in agricultural business.
• Having worked on an arable farm, and understanding basics of crop production.
• Experience in maintaining irrigation systems.
