Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences at the University of the Western Cape is situated on two campuses namely; Main campus and Bellville campus. The Faculty is one of the leading institutions for the education of health sciences professionals in South Africa. The Faculty offers professional qualifications in Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Social Work, Community Development, Inter-Professional Education, Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of Children Families and Society (CISCFS), Complementary Medicine, Public Health and Biokinetics. We currently have a position available for an experienced academic administrator to work in the research and postgraduate office in the faculty. The incumbent will report to the Faculty Manager and work closely with the Deputy Dean of Research and Postgraduate studies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for and not limited to:
  • Function as a committee officer at selected faculty committee meetings.
  • Organise stakeholder meetings with relevant partners such as industry professionals on the research platforms.
  • Plan and coordinate conferences, writing retreats, workshop and grant writing.
  • Manage and report on project funding including grant expenditure and research capital expenditure.
  • Support and participate in all administrative staff research processes and activities.
  • Manage all research recognition awards.
  • Manage ethics approvals and communication to researchers.
  • Collate data and information for faculty journal and organise research week.
  • Work with the student enrolment management system and student marks administration by tracking and reporting on post graduate student’s during the student’s life cycle.
  • Oversee the registration, promotion and graduation process of all post graduate students.
  • Ensure that all governance processes are ethically applied.
  • Engage in accumulation, processing, analysis and reporting on student and staff data.
  • Liaise regularly with central postgraduate administration, ICS, departments, staff members, students, faculties, tertiary institutions and external organisations.
Minimum Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) with at least 3yrs in higher education academic administration experience.
  • Post graduate funding and research experience.
  • Working knowledge and or experience of a Student Enrolment Management System.
  • Excellent office management, record keeping, data capturing, reporting and minute taking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Expertise in MS office with advance Excel functionalities and familiar with Google applications.
