Cape town-based client is seeking an experienced Factory Manager to oversee the seamless production process, manage day-to-day factory operations, and ensure quality control standards in their facility. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in manufacturing, preferably in textiles, with expertise in production planning, team management, and technical troubleshooting of industrial machinery.
Main job function
Production Planning: Develop and implement a production plan aligned with incoming orders to ensure timely fulfilment. Coordinate with the Managing Director (MD) to set production targets and streamline workflows.
Operational Management: Ensure smooth operations of all manufacturing machinery, including Santoni knitting machines, Flainox dyeing machines, and heat-setting equipment. Oversee machine maintenance schedules and coordinate with mechanics for repairs as needed.
Quality Control: Conduct random inspections of garments during and after production to ensure that all products meet company and client standards, aligning with approved samples. Address any quality discrepancies promptly.
Team Supervision: Manage a team of operators, mechanics, designers, and sewing machinists. Provide guidance and delegate tasks to ensure optimal productivity and adherence to timelines. Conduct performance evaluations and identify areas for employee development.
Health and Safety Compliance: Implement and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and conduct regular training to uphold high safety standards.
Inventory and Resource Management: Maintain inventory of raw materials and supplies, including yarn, dyes, and packaging materials. Monitor usage, reorder levels, and coordinate with suppliers to maintain adequate stock levels.
Process Optimization: Continuously assess and improve manufacturing processes for increased efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Implement lean manufacturing practices to minimize waste and enhance production flow.
Reporting: Prepare regular reports on production, quality, and team performance for the MD. Provide actionable insights and recommend strategies for enhancing operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing management role, with a preference for textile industry experience.
Technical Skills: Knowledge of knitting, dyeing, and heat-setting machinery. Familiarity with seamless garment production is a plus.
Leadership Abilities: Proven experience in managing and motivating teams. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve complex operational challenges.
