The Facilities Specialist will support the Group Facilities Manager in overseeing all aspects of facility management, including maintenance, safety, security, space planning, and project coordination.
This role ensures the effective operation of the BRSA building, warehouse/workshop, and surrounding grounds while maintaining high service standards and compliance with safety regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in Facilities Management (NQF Level 5 or higher)
- Matric certification
- Technical certificate or diploma (advantageous)
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in maintenance and facility operations
- Strong technical and problem-solving abilities

Duties and Responsibilities:
Facility Operations & Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections of buildings, workshops, and grounds, ensuring compliance with maintenance standards.
- Perform minor repairs on heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Oversee the maintenance and operation of security systems, access controls, and CCTV.
- Monitor and ensure the proper functioning of emergency systems, including fire alarms and emergency lighting.
- Manage maintenance schedules for generators, compressors, HVAC systems, and sprinkler valve equipment.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of contractors, sub-contractors, and service providers.
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, inspections, and compliance reports.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for tenants, contractors, and service providers.
- Facilitate access for all maintenance personnel and contractors.
- Address and resolve maintenance requests within a 24-hour timeframe.
- Conduct regular meetings with service providers, contractors, and BRSA stakeholders to review operational effectiveness.
- Ensure clear and professional communication regarding facilities-related matters.
Security & Safety Management
- Ensure all security officers are on duty and performing their responsibilities effectively.
- Monitor and enforce building safety protocols, ensuring doors are locked after operating hours.
- Supervise security service providers and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards.
Financial & Procurement Management
- Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts for facilities-related expenses.
- Ensure all expenditures remain within budget constraints.
- Process purchase orders and verify invoices against completed work.
- Obtain and compare at least three quotations for jobs.
Project Management & Space Planning
- Support the implementation of new facility projects and initiatives.
- Plan and coordinate the allocation of space and resources in line with business needs.
- Manage change initiatives to minimize disruption to core operations.
- Ensure all project deliverables are met within set timelines and budgets.
Warehouse & Inventory Oversight
- Ensure the completion of monthly warehouse inspection checklists.
- Conduct dry runs with the Facilities Manager before monthly management walkabouts.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
