Job Summary: The Cape Town Holocaust and Genocide Centre seeks an Executive Director to oversee educational, public, and outreach programs, as well as day-to-day operations, with a focus on Holocaust education and remembrance in South Africa.

The Cape Town Holocaust and Genocide Centre is a leading institution in the field of Holocaust education and remembrance in Africa. As the first Holocaust centre in Africa, it works in association with the Holocaust and Genocide Centres in Johannesburg and Durban. The Centre's mission is to create a more caring and just society in which human rights and diversity are respected and valued.

The Executive Director will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of creative, thoughtful, and robust educational programming, activities, and events for greater Cape Town and beyond. This includes working with the Education Director to develop and implement educational initiatives that reflect the latest research on the Holocaust and are sensitive to the experiences of Holocaust survivors and their families.

The Executive Director will also oversee the Centre's exhibitions, including the permanent exhibition and travelling exhibitions. This includes providing leadership and vision to guide the development of exhibitions, maintaining oversight of the production and distribution of exhibitions, and researching and sourcing existing exhibits for use at the Centre.

Additionally, the Executive Director will be responsible for the Centre's archive, working closely with the archivist to develop and maintain the archive and its public manifestation. The Executive Director will also drive and implement outreach, communication, and PR strategies, creating and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including other NPOs, human rights museums, departments of education, and the diplomatic community.

The Executive Director will be responsible for fundraising, increasing revenue from grants, sponsorships, memberships, major gifts, planned giving, and general funding sourced by the Centre's endowment fund. The Executive Director will also oversee the Centre's finances, including supervising the financial management of the organisation, drafting and maintaining the budget, and preparing fundraising and grant proposals.

The ideal candidate will have a relevant post-graduate degree or diploma in history, education, museology, or peacebuilding/human rights. They will have management-level experience in an educational, museum, or NGO environment, with experience in Holocaust education and museology, and the history of the Holocaust. The candidate will also have excellent communication skills, with the ability to drive organisational communication and correspondence, and a good listener with the ability to communicate in a responsible way with different stakeholders.

The Executive Director will be responsible for leading a team of professional staff and volunteers, overseeing the Centre's facilities, and maintaining good working relationships with other tenants in the Gardens Community Centre. The Executive Director will also be responsible for arranging and coordinating Board Meetings, as well as related material and reports.

The ideal candidate will have a clear passion for Holocaust education and the potential impact that it can have on future generations. They will have a good understanding of Holocaust and Genocide history and education, and a sensitivity to the educational, political, and social context in which the Centre operates.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements:
