Role: Engineering Technician (Systems) in the FMCG Industry
Duties / Responsibilities:
Installation, configuration, maintenance, and fault finding on variable speed drives (VSDs) and soft starters.
Installation, configuration, and fault-finding on power system protection relays, intelligent motor starters, and electronic overloads.
Servicing, maintenance, configuration, and programming of Siemens PLCs, SCADA, and DCS systems (PCS7).
Manage and maintain Siemens systems software and hardware (Simatic Manager, TIA Portal, PCS7) version changes and ensure plant software backup files are up to date.
Assist in high level fault finding on turbo alternators, power transformers, AC and DC motors (including slip ring motors).
Maintain a contingency plan for all critical control systems in the plant (PCS7 workstations, HMI’s, PLC components, and power supplies).
Maintain the PLC communications network in conjunction with the IT department, ensure redundancy is in place, and drawings of architecture are up to date.
Maintaining an up-to-date Functional Specification Database of all the control systems in the plant, this includes PID’s and loop drawings.
Optimize control loops where required on PLC’s and make graphical changes on SCADA/DCS systems.
Stand in as Electrical Foreman from time to time.
Perform Electrical Foreman Standby duties.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum five years’ post qualification experience, with a minimum of three years’ experience obtained in a heavy industry operating environment.
Computer literate.
Low and medium voltage (up to 11kV) electrical systems from starter components to load consumptions.
Working knowledge of Siemens automation and process control systems - specifically PCS7, TIA portal, and Simatic Manager.
Working knowledge of VSDs, Soft Starters (Siemens, ABB, and WEG), and intelligent motor controllers (mainly Siemens Simocodes).
Familiarity with control instrumentation installation codes and standards, calibration, and commissioning.
Control Networks (Profinet/Ethernet/Fiber and Profibus DP).
Multidisciplinary exposure.
Qualifications:
N Dip (S4) (Electrical) (Heavy Current) or (Instrumentation) preferred OR N6 Dip (Electrical) (Heavy Current) or (Instrumentation).
Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa will be advantageous.
A Trade Test in electrical or Instrumentation will be advantageous.
